Please help, older cats with urination issues.?
My cats, aged 9 and 10 are urinating in the same spot in the upstairs bathroom. They have no reason to do this, as, their litter box is cleaned on a daily basis, and it is easy for them to access. We have tried everything to get them to stay out of this spot, scrubbing with bleach, washing thoroughly the soiled objects with ammonia, keeping the door closed, using expensive "stay away" sprays, and yet they still get in and do this. The only major change to their daily life was that last year we got a puppy who is now a grown dog. One cat completely ignores the dog, but the other absolutely hates it, and spends all day upstairs until the dog is locked up for the night. Is there anything I could possibly do to stop this behavior? I’m so afraid that my parents will want to get rid of the cat(s) if this keeps up.
This is a way to act out their frustration of the dog. Have you tried moving their litter box to the area that they are going? If they begin using it there and no where else, you’ve found a solution. If they begin going some where else. It may be time to consult an animal behaviorist. But I’m pretty certain it is centered around their anger towards the dog. Hope this helps
